Philippines Cardinal Tagle Opens Door Of Mercy In Manila & Typhoon Melor (Nona) Is The First One Through The Door! Hundreds Dead!


Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — A special Porta Sancta or Holy Door of the Manila Cathedral was opened Wednesday (December 9) signaling the start of the observance of the Jubilee Year of Mercy in the country. Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle led the opening of the door, but instead of asking the help of other priests, the cardinal did it with the poor and persons with disability. This is also different from the act that happened in 2000 during the Great Jubilee. Instead of breaking open a seal as was done by Jaime Cardinal Sin, when he opened the Holy Door 15 years ago, Cardinal Tagle and his companions pushed the door open.....and let the Typhoon Melor in.....



Typhoon Melor carved through the central Philippines on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that left millions without power and at least three people dead, officials said. One person died of hypothermia while two others drowned in floods in the fishing town of Catarman in Northern Samar province in the Visayas region south of Manila, municipal disaster officer Jonathan Baldo told DZMM radio. The storm toppled trees and cut electricity to at least seven provinces, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
